The Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Network

December News

1. Next Network Event – 13th January 2011, Manchester
The topic of the next network event is CO2 to Bulk Chemicals. Prof Dr Walter Leitner of RWTH Aachen University is the plenary speaker and each participant is invited to give a short 2 minute presentation on their current CO2 work. Bookings close on 20th Dec 2010. To book and for more details please go to

2. Network Membership
The network now contains over 190 members from 32 different universities and 41 companies. If you know anyone who might like to join please direct them to the website and ask them to email

3. Website Updates
The website has now been updated to include a community function. This will allow members of the network to

-post updates on different subjects
-contact network members through the website
-have discussions on different subjects

To use the Community function fully you first need to create a log in. This is very fast and will only take a couple of minutes. You can do this in the top corner of the right sidebar. Please upload an avatar photo of yourself, it will make it easier for people to put a face to a name at events. Please note this is  different to the password that you have been given by me for the old network members area, so you need to create your own new login.

Once you are registered you can then request to join certain groups (these are listed in the left sidebar). Some groups are private and require me to approve your membership. This is so we can ensure only network members read the content. Other groups are public and open access.

4. Sharing information
If you have recently read a good article or paper on any area of CO2 utilisation or discovered a useful website or company working in the area; please either post the details in the community section of the website or email me so I can post it.

For those who attended the CO2Chem launch event in September, you will remember that the EPSRC informed us that there would be a EPSRC signpost on Using CO2 as a Resource. Unfortunately we have now heard this signpost is currently on hold is unlikely to come out until the spring. If you require more information on this please contact Talit Ghaffar at the EPSRC.

Finally everyone on the CO2Chem Management Group wish you a very Merry Christmas and all good wishes for the New Year
